For a few times now we've traveled to Lake Geneva for a longish ride from home with a very nice destination at the end--Sopra. Plainly and simply the chef knows what (s)he is doing. We've come enough that we know the menu quite well--as we explore, we find a diverse menu with interesting specials from a talented chef. The duck (peach sauce, served with cinnamon dusted sweet potatoes) and the beet salad (roasted golden beets, honey orange vinaigrette)--perfecto! The pasta dishes show masterful execution. Gnocchi which is the usual test of an accomplished chef gets a splendid grade. There's an enjoyable wine and drink menu to boot. If I could get them to remove the televisions from the bar area, I'd give this a five star ranking. I'm being hyper-picky. I'm sorry! (not!). It's the only thing I don't care for--and obviously this customer oriented restaurant is looking to please others, not just me. Now, a short story from the last visit. When we walked in, there was a not noticeably, very drunk woman with an older man and younger teen(?). For some reason, the drunk thought it would be hilarious to break bread and throw it at her companions. The imbecilic companions thought it was hilarious to partake. This was all quite unnoticeable. The evidence of their idiocy became apparent as the drunk stumbled out, bumping into the chair of one table and bumping into the door jamb of the exit. Yelp rating (-)5. She could not have been more of an idiot. Now for the restaurant reaction: Our waiter was mortified. He went to the adjoining table and made every amend possible. He gave us a dessert and cappuccino. I was quite impressed with his aplomb and the hostess's concern. Bravo on that!

We dined here last night and had a wonderful meal! What a lovely spot-warm and friendly! The apps were amazing-olives, mussels, octopus. The mussel appetizer was HUGE! Also, the bread was served with salted butter! Heavenly. Our table ordered three different pastas and all were splendidly executed: gnocchi, spaghetti, and radiatori. The radiatori was amazing---bacon, cheese, pasta! Plus, our server gave us reheating instructions, which was a nice touch. We will return!!

this is a nice change from some of the more casual resturants in l.g. the food was good, service was good as well- we didn't have the long wait the previous reviewer experienced (we were a group of 10 as well). however, i do agree that the food is VERY overpriced. and there were no children portions offered.

4.5...the bad reviews are total BS. I have eaten here probably 25 times and never once had a poor experience or even average meal. I hate to condescend, but the bad reviews are most likely hillbilly tourists. Do your homework people, it's a nice restaurant, and not expensive for what you get. It is family owned, with the dad owning and running the show, the son is the chef, and the wife is there occasionally helping out as well. They could not be nicer. I want to say he's Irish, I think I'm right, but they have travelled the world and then some. The chef is truly talented, and I'm so glad he chose LG to stay. The place is small, but they recently added an upstairs. I'm not a fan of sitting up there, it's too quiet, but holy shit is downstairs LOUD!!! I mean deafening, and this is after they put sound paneling in. I'm not sensitive to noise, especially living in Chicago, but it's weird how noisy it is. I wish they could figure it out. But, it's a great place. Truly has there been an item I didn't enjoy here. Some worth mentioning... Octopus- oh. My. God. Yum and tender. Tuna Tartar- a special. Get it. Amazing. Lobster wontons- so not something id normally order, but phenomenal. Soups- always homemade and amazing. Beet salad- tiny, but good. Salmon- not usually a fan of cedar planked anything, especially with a sweet glaze, but this is awesome. Everyone lovvvves it. Lamb shank- good, not excellent. Short rib- duh. NY Strip- don't order it. It's good, but other items are better. Gnocchi- chicken, spinach, mozzarella cream? Yes. Spaghetti with spicy sausage- way too blasé sounding to me, but my sis adores it. Short rib pappardelle- Get it!!! Don't ask, do it. Top 3 pastas I've ever had. Not always on the menu, but the only special order they accept. It's like pot roast died and went to Heaven, then sent back to Sopra. It didn't make sense, I know. Just order it. Bar service can be very slow, but lake living is a slower pace of life I suppose. I'm an impatient Chicagoan. Plan on a longer, drawn out meal. Like the people you're dining with is my best advice.

Let me start off by saying that I can't believe we waited years after this restaurant opened to come here. Oh wait, maybe because the first time we tried to go there some girl on the phone said if we showed up by a certain time they would still serve dinner. Well, of course we did that, and when we got there, they turned us away even though we told them that we JUST talked to someone stating what I just wrote. ANYWHO NOW All I can give are positive reviews to anyone who asks. We decided to try it out since another couple said it was their favorite place in town. And if you know Lake Geneva, there are slim pickings for really, REALLY, good hand made food. The first time we went sometime in October or November 2013 we had mussels, the short rib, scallops, and a chocolate dessert. You can say I was PUNCHED IN THE FACE with flava! The bread was really hard (as it was this past time that we went a few weeks ago). The mussels were good. There was one that was still closed and you know we HAD to notice that, but didn't say anything. The short rib, potatoes, and spinach were SO delicious! Packed with flavor in every bite. The scallops: WOW. They were super rich and had a great potato-like crisp pancake with a wonderful sauce. The only thing lacking was a green vegetable, but that's just my preference. Would DEFINITELY get both of these meals again if there weren't so many other delicious looking items on the menu. Oh yeah, dessert=decadence After reading other reviews in November of last year, I can only say they were having an off night because our servers, both times different, each had their own quirky personality, but were attentive and always came to our table in a timely manner. The second time we went we had: Sopra salad, Duck, and Steak. Again, superb flavoring-punch-you-in-your face meal. O.K., so yes they're a little pricier than other joints in the area, but for the portion size and flavor delivering meals, it's so worth it. My recommendation is to share a salad, entrée, and dessert or share a salad, appetizer, and entrée if you don't want to spend as much. OH YEAH! Our 2nd visit, we had their special ahi tuna which was to die for and fabulous and every freaking sushi restaurant needs to have this recipe.

Near perfect. Unbelievable food, creative dishes, attentive but not hovering staff. (Carlos was our server and he was extremely helpful in our menu choices) My ONLY negative comment is the noise level as many other reviewers have commented. But go anyway!

We have been to this warm American bistro restaurant several times and each visit did not disappoint us. Service is excellent but more important, the food is outstanding. Their attention to detail reflects the quality of food which is served. One of the best restaurants we have dined at.
(5)Sara F.
We came for drinks and dessert and it was amazing!!! Can't wait to go back for dinner next time I am in lake Geneva. If you go for dessert, try s'mores with their homemade marshmallow fluff - amazing! Beautiful, clean and modern!

My parents were visiting and we had heard nothing but great things about this place. I used to live in New York City, so we have all been spoiled, cuisine-wise. However, we all have an open mind when it comes to dining and are definitely not foodie snobs. Anyway. We had asked in advance if it would be a problem that I am a vegan. We were assured this was not an issue when we made our reservation. Unfortunately, our waitress told us differently, saying that the chef buys all his vegetables "in advance" for the day and couldn't even throw together a plate of sautéed vegetables for me. If we had come to dinner not letting anyone know about this dietary restriction, I could understand. But the fact that the waitress asked if could eat scallops....no thanks. My mom is visiting soon and we may go back, but not before speaking a manager about this disappointing experience. My parents both enjoyed their food very much, but I went home and made myself a veggie burger since all I could eat was one of the salads, sans cheese. Also, our waitress was manic. She kept forgetting things and repeating herself a lot. She made us all a little bit nervous to be honest... All in all, willing to try this place again...but with a different server!

Sopra was a 4-5 star meal but no more than a 3 star overall experience. More on that later. On to the food. We had the flatbread of the day to start, which was a caramelized onion and brie flatbread. Really good overall, but something on the crunchy side would have been good to counter the soft cheese and onions. I ordered the lamb and veal meatballs with fettuccine, which was outstanding. The meatballs were incredibly flavorful and moist. Their beer and wine selection was as top notch as the great service our waiter provided. He had no problem answering the endless questions we had. But the downer of the meal was the reservation management. When I called to make a reservation, they said they only had openings before 6 or after 9. Ok, fine. So we showed up at 5:30, a bit earlier than we really wanted. So 6:00 rolls around, only 3 tables in the entire place had people sitting (us included). Then 6:30 comes around, the restaurant is maybe half full. When we left at 7:15, there were still half of the tables open and they were turning people away at the door saying that they either had to wait for a bar spot to open or make a reservation later than 9:30. If you say you're full after 6, then I would expect the tables to at least start filling in at 7, if not by 7:30. One would think empty tables would not be very profitable, no?

Love this place it is comfortable, hip and cozy. Food is great, waitress is fab. Get the roasted olives! #comingback.

Visiting from Chicago with our 2 1/2 year old son in march 2011. Decided to eat here, over the chophouse so we could get a feel for the town. They looked at us a little funny when we walked in with our son, but he was very well behaved (with an iPad) and everyone was able to enjoy their dinners. We absolutely loved the beet salad and the rigatoni and salmon dishes were perfect. We also chose a really nice Pinot. I thought this place was great, nice atmosphere too. I don't understand the bad reviews! We were happy. We also ate at trattoria brissago at the grand Geneva and loved it. As well as simple cafe for bfast and lunch.

The only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is because the service was a tad slow. As it happens, when I was there with my husband this past weekend we actually enjoyed the fact that we weren't rushed, but for many people I feel like it would've been too slow. Now onto the review. Stopped in with no reservations on a Friday night around 8pm. We were able to get a table outside with no wait (!) after scoping out a few other restaurants in the "downtown" Lake Geneva area. What drew us in was the fact that it was packed, and the menu looked very promising - more upscale food experience as opposed to your typical small vacation town diner food (which has it's place but just not all the time!). We ended up doing a tapas style dinner with the appetizers and shared most of them - off the menu my husband had the caprase (sp?) salad and lobster wontons, and off the specials menu he got the gespatcho soup. Off the menu I had the arugala salad and off the specials I had the potato curry soup. My meal: First of all, ALL of the ingredients are as locally sourced as they can get, and very VERY fresh. My arugala salad tasted like it was fresh from a garden, it was HUGE, and very tasty. However the star of my meal was the potato curry soup. It was surprisingly large, and very filling. Husbands meal: excellent gespatcho soup and caprase salad. We were not excepting the uniqueness of the caprase salad - it was served with small multi colored cherry tomatoes and red onions in addition to the traditional basil, vingarette and mozzarella. But it was fantastic! However, the star of his meal was the lobster wontons. Now, he was concerned when ordering them that they would be "all cream cheesy and no lobster." But after tasting them, he declared that they "were crab ragoons younger, hotter sister" and "the best fried thing he's ever had." There were actual huge chunks of lobster, and the "cream cheese" was goats cheese. He also loved the sauce, which was a good blend of sweet and spicy. Overall, fantastic good, and our server was very nice. But like I said at the beginning, service was kinda slow - there was a party of 30 in the main dining room so I'm sure that had something to do with it. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place if you're in town and looking for a more adult, upscale (but not pretentious) dining experience.

WE had a great time here. The drinks were spendy, but delicious. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the beers on tap, and made a mighty fine martini. Our server (Leana) was professional, informed and just the right amount of attentive without hovering. The food was VERY well prepared, fresh and flavorful. Our tab was just under $100 for two, and we did not order an entree, choosing three appetizers instead. It WAS worth it!

We went here for our anniversary and were completely underwhelmed. The service is slow and inattentive, it took 20 minutes to get water and bread, and when we asked for the bread it was plunked down on the table as though it was an inconvenience to bring it (the server had told us when he brought the wine that he would 'be right back with the bread'). We ordered the Steak Frites which was actually kind of gross. It was supposedly a Hangar steak but if it was...it was the worst Hangar steak I've ever eaten. It was tough, chewy, under seasoned and just not good. The truffle fries were fine and the wine list was nice though.

Traveling with the kids and tired of pizza, nachos and sandwiches??? Then leave those brats with a sitter and stop into Sopra for a relaxing adult evening. Excellent, excellent food! Only a handful of menu items, and each one is done RIGHT! The specials are creative and delicious as well. The server was extremely knowledgable and friendly. Grilled octopus was cooked well and charred perfectly. Served atop a little arugala salad. Beet salad was deconstructed, nice presentation. They weren't stingy with the beets, either. Our main dishes were: Scallops with brie cream... Did she just say brie cream? Yes she did. They were cooked to PERFECTION, which is important, as texture is critical to our friend the scallop. 4 big ones come with the order, with little potato rounds- yum. SHORT RIBS!!!! Wow. The glaze/sauce was crazy good, and the meat was soooooo tender and juicy and a little "sticky" from the glaze. Served over mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. A VERY memorable meal, for sure. Wine, martinis, beautiful ambiance, candles, good background music. I'll definitely be back! Service was great. Even if it's a little slow, just relax with your wine and friends. Good stuff.

Great restaurant in downtown Lake Geneva. Had a wonderful experience over the Halloween weekend and split mussels, steak and a pasta with plenty leftover. They have a great wine list and the view from the second floor was nice to watch the crowds in costumes make their way from place to place. During our trip, this was the most memorable and delicious place of them all!

I don't know if it was just an off day for this restaurant or this is the usual from other reviews I've now read. Either way my rating is on the generous side. Short version:way too expensive for the service and food. Not worth the price or time u spend waiting for service. Long version: -waited over 10 min for anyone to come over and give us water or ask for drink order -my husbad was very annoyed while I just thought maybe things move a little slower here -couple on right of us walked out after waiting as long as we did for water/drink order -next couple they seated complained as well and by the time we were bout to leave majority of tables around us looked annoyed - wayyyy to many different specials/menu items for that size/type of place. Made u feel like they were just trying to get rid of food so they made it into a special.(5entree specials) - u can not change anything on menu. Which is fine w me if it taste really good but this did not. I got the lamb chops (very good) but it came w purple potatoes katamata olives (no color difference) mixed w feta cheese and sprinkled w some purple salt. Talk about salt overlaod! Plus it looked aweful. I'm not a big food snob but when your paying $35 for a plate that has no color contast and salty items to begin then u add more something is wrong here. -second glass of wine was ordered before meal was delivered but we did not recieve until after our meal. - pumpkin pie dessert and mussles appetizer was delicious so that's where one of each my stars went to. Everything else not worth your time and especially money. Sopra get your special entrees down to 3 max and learn how to make sides that go along w them. Plus u need to figure out how to run a restaurant bc your staff was running around like crazy people but everyone was waiting for things. I wanted to really like your restaurant but was very dissapointed along w many others who said they will not be coming back.

Sopra is quite a nice restaurant for the area. We went here for dinner on a Sunday night, and found parking close by. The restaurant has a nice ambiance inside. The food is delicious - we had the steak and a pasta dish. The reason Sopra get a 4, not a 5, is because the food is that good and the service is that bad. Our waitress attempted to up-sell us on every aspect of our meal, starting from the drinks and ending with dessert. She was nice, but extremely pushy and quite rude at times. In addition, the service was extremely slow, which was confirmed with the couple at the table next to us - and the restaurant was only half full. To give an example of this, it took 45-50 minutes for us to get our entrees after ordering them. The couple next too us had the same exact experience, if not longer. During this time period, the waitress did not even check on our table once. She even avoided eye contact with us as she passed by our table dozens of times. Had the food not been absolutely delicious, Sopra would have received a 2. I would consider giving them another shot, but I would definitely rather go to Medusa any day of the week.

Went here to celebrate our Anniversary, so our experience was on a Wednesday evening. We were greeted pleasantly by one of the wait staff and asked if we were celebrating since we were dressed up. She promptly offered us our pick of seating . Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and asked the kitchen on a few things to confirm they were indeed gluten free. The food here was very good. We had the warm olives, which were well seasoned. The only thing wrong was I had a hankering for some cheese with them! The wedge salad was typical in size, but the dressing was homemade with wonderfully large chunks of blue cheese. The bacon was clearly fresh fried and crumbled in large chunks as well. I had the Pan seared sea scallops with potato rounds and Brie cream. I ABSOLUTELY love scallops and have eaten my fair share. These rate at the top of the list of BEST EVER in my book. These rate up there with Fleur De Lys-Hubert Keller and Le Titi de Paris-Michael Maddox. The flourless chocolate cake was lovely, almost more like a fudge/mousse. They had a nice selection of wine as well. I definitely recommend this place for a great fine dining meal. The only drawbacks were Kitchen staff lounging in the front and the loudmouth golfers who were seated behind us. That kind of killed the intimate mood.
(4)Mary P.
Horrible service, horrible lighting, horrible bar selection. The website should state that there are no spirits served, only beer and wine. The owners are rude and stuck up. Not the kind of place that belongs in Lake Geneva. Ive been wondering how long this place will last.
(1)Catalina A.
Lovely table at the window. 15 minutes for water. 40 minutes for appetizers. 1 hour and 5 minutes for the burger ordered to arrive. It was charred on the outside and raw as in straight from the package and liquidy. Besides the fact that it was Sunday evening and only 5 other patrons; besides the fact that our server asked if we wanted to box up the raw burger, nice location. Do not go to this restaurant. Awful service and way overpriced food.
(1)Eric S.
Roasted olives appetizer is a pass. It's not bad, but the olives aren't so great as to be a decent appetizer on their own. Combined with a cheese sampler, this might be something. Wedge salads are excellent, particularly the blue cheese dressing which is made in house. By far the best blue cheese dressing I've ever had. Very nice wine selection with a good mix of domestics and europeans rather than the Californian-only selection I was afraid a restaurant like this might offer. Scallops entree was described as 'best ever', which is not something you'd expect to hear from the dining room of a small, midwest tourist town. The pork tenderloin entree was equally stellar. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, served over asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. Portion sizes were 'just right' on the scallops, and a little large on the pork tenderloin (a full 8oz of pork and a healthy amount of potatoes). Deserts were fine, but not as good as the other courses. The chef in this place must have an incredible reason for hanging around Lake Geneva, Wi because his talents would stand out in any restaurant in Chicago. Wait staff isn't bad, but this is where the vibe of the place starts to become a little schizophrenic. The decor and ambience along with the menu and prices are advertising fine dining, yet the wait staff are walking about in blue jeans and the owner was lounging around reading a paper and kicking back in sweat pants and running shoes. Really strange, but it's a tough economy and if they set the bar so high as to turn away a lot of the from-the-golf-course booze guzzlers or usual flock of seniors then this would probably be another restaurant casualty. Service was prompt, though they weren't exactly in the weeds at the time we visited (off season, weeknight, 7pm). The waitress was comfortable explaining the menu and specials and happy to work around dietary restrictions (they're very aware of gluten-free eating requirements and happy to accomodate). Prices were more than fair for the quality of the wine and food. Sopra is definitely one of your better dining options in Lake Geneva.

This bustling little restaurant was one that can easily be walked by and thought to be to "city". Once inside (or on the spacious patio) you get to know the bartenders, waiters/waitresses and realize it it nothing short of special. The people are so warm and welcoming, it makes you never want to give your seat up and hope the food keeps on coming. We snagged a four top for the two of us, in the back, and had a bubbly server. She had phenomenal cadence and great recommendations in helping us manage the well planned menu. Octopus in black ink, supurb fish and a pork chop that still makes my glands salivate! Make it a sto pon your list and you will not be disappointed
(4)Renee V.
This is a great restaurant! Adam, our waiter is amazing! Hands down! He sang happy birthday in Italian! Amazing! The pork chops and duck out highly recommend and the lobster wontons are super fresh. Great service and great food!

We stumbled upon this place driving home to Chicago and had one of the best meals in recent memory. It was a Sunday evening, we had no reservation but were seated right away outside. The service was good, the waitress was quirky and funny and knowledgable. The food, though, really shined. We split a giant wedge salad - it was good, hard to screw up a wedge after all. My husband had steak with blue cheese topping and truffle fries - steak was perfectly cooked and the fries were delicious. I had scallops with potato rounds with a brie sauce. This was truly divine. The scallops were huge and perfectly cooked, and I wanted to lick the sauce off the plate, it was that good. Overall, the meal was outstanding. Note: they've just recently gotten a permit for outdoor dining and you can't have booze outside after 9. So plan accordingly (we had to chug the last bit of our wine, though they did offer to let us come inside to finish it more leisurely). We would have paced our wine a bit better had we known.

We love eating at Sopra everytime we visit Lake Geneva, and they have never disappointed us with their specials. The only issue we had last time was where they sat us. They had us sitting on the second floor and couldn't provide us with a highchair for my daughter even though we had reservations. The service was very slow and I felt none of the waiting stuff ever came upstairs to check on their customers since they were busy with everyone downstairs. I will be back again since we love the food, but we are NEVER ever going to sit upstairs again.

If it weren't for two restaurants (and Studio Winery), I would have been severely disappointed by the food for this resort town called Lake Geneva (sarcasm). The two restaurants being Simple (only serves breakfast and lunch) and Sopra. Sopra is definitely a worthy fine dining experience in Lake Geneva. Entrees are somewhat expensive and my girlfriend and I did not want to stuff ourselves (later failed at this), so we stuck to a few appetizers and wine. The mussels were cooked well and were in an amazing broth that consisted of white wine, garlic, shallots, marjoram, and butter (yes, I had to copy and paste from the website). We also got the baby octopus (not calamari) that was served over baby arugula, basil, tomatoes, lemon, and oil. Both appetizers were perfect for a summer night! The decor was modern yet rustic and the restaurant had good rock/soft rock playing in the background. Sopra was definitely a nice alternative to the "restaurants" right off of the lake!
(4)Bob H.
Good food, attentive service, and convenient location for downtown Lake Geneva. The only thing not getting the higher ranking is the price was a bit expensive, but i guess you have to pay up a bit in tourisity summer towns. Good thing was that my parents were watching our kids that night so at least we didn't have to pay a baby sitter!!
(4)Peter S.
My wife and I wanted to try something a little more upscale for our 15th wedding anniversary and decided on Sopra. Let me tell you it was fabulous! From the ambience to our waitress to the food. Ah, the food. We started with the lobster wontons that were delicious. We then received our entrees. My wife got the scallops, which she is a fan of anyway, but she said these were the best she'd ever had. I went with the ribeye, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare, covered in a delicious garlic butter sauce. One of the best steaks I'd ever eaten. And when they found out it was our anniversary they surprised us with champagne and chocolate truffle, which was delectable. It was out first time to Lake Geneva and to Sopra and we definitely will be going back the next time out there.
(5)Sarah S.
Fabulous salmon entree with a creamy dill sauce, served with fingerling potato salad made with creme fraiche and more dill and grilled asparagus. Made all the better with a glass of French white bordeaux. Magnificent!!!
(4)J C.
Hands down the best restaurant in Lake Geneva! Located in a beautiful building on Main with exposed brick, duct work and wood tables and chairs. Nice wine list, delicious apps and entrees. We had the ribeye and the lamb. Great service from our bartender Adam. We can't wait to return!
(5)Betsy H.
This is one of the best in Lake Geneva. Great service, and wonderful food and wine. We had the tuna tartar that was fantastic. I had a fish special that was good that night, but it wasn't outstanding. They have great steaks and wonderful salads. The salad portions are a bit small for the price, but very well prepared. We have been there about 8 times and it's consistently good.
(4)Lee F.
I have to say I do feel bad for our waitress they were so under staffed and it was Mothers Day. However not my problem, food so beyond mediocre everything was bland and really pretty bad. Gnocchi was gummy no flavor, braised lamb shank was gamey, pasta was over cooked and bland, soup was cold...nothing was good. Paid $$$$ for a below sub par dinner. I will never go back...so bummed Medusa is closed on Sundays!!!
(2)JJ Z.
The food is amazing, but everything else drags the rating down. Just a lot of weird things that shouldn't be happening at a restaurant with these prices. The waitress listed the draft beers, but only the brewery so I had to ask which kind. She described one wrong, but let me try it, so that's good. Someone other than our server brought out our food, which is normal, but he just stood there staring at us until he finally asked who had what dish, with an attitude like it was a major inconvenience. Then my wife and I ordered another beer. I ordered the Six Point Resin, but got the Six Point Sweet Action, and they just put the can, unopened, on the table with a glass. My wife also got a beer with a glass, which the server then filled with water. My wife stopped her and moved the water to the right glass. No apology or new glass from the waitress, but she did volunteer the fact that she's done that before, even though the beer glasses are clearly different. Our meals were very good. We had the lamb with gnocchi, and the salmon. The food is ultimately what matters, but I've had much better experiences for much less.

Overall this is a good place to eat, and I wouldn't mind coming back. Food: Had the ceasar salad, the lobster wonton and the Farfalle pasta. The Ceasar was very good, The Farfalle was very nice (could have used a dash of more salt, but can't complain. The Lobster Wonton was interesting. It was nice, but not what I'd normally go for. Service: We were seated upon arrival (didn't have reservations, but on a weeknight), and then completely ignored for the next 25 minutes, except for the water guy who filled up our water glasses. That actually really ticked me off because the lady who at us looked at our table several times and never did anything. Not awesome At All. Afterwards, a waitress checked up on us, and then took us on since no one else was attending to us. A manager (I assume) also apologized for the wait. Once our server was established with our table, she took very good care of us. Other notes: It's very elegant on the inside, has a great location and a nice menu. Because this waitress took good care of us, I gave this place 4 stars. Otherwise, they would have gotten 3 for sure esp with how we were completely ignored in the beginning. Tips: - Bathroom is located in the back of the restaurant. - They also have happy hours (from 3-5pm I think) so that's also worth checking out.

This place was awesome. Awesome. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'll eat pork ever again. The pork dish I had here was so tender that no other pork dish will ever live up to it.

I was with a group of 5-6 people at Sopra and we all agreed that the food was OK at best. No doubt, this restaurant is a *cool* place in Lake Geneva to hang out. In LG, it is not easy to find vegan food. However, I was able to tweak a few foods at Sopra to create a vegan meal for myself. I enjoyed a roasted beet salad minus the goat cheese and a black bean soup (again, minus the goat cheese.) Both foods were very good. For the bread & butter eaters, Sopra offers butter that is sprinkled with sea salt to spread on the warm bread. Although we did not order any desserts, the dessert menu looked plentiful and amazing. Be aware, this restaurant is closed on Wednesdays.

Was looking for decent reviews on yelp and surprisingly this place got 3.5. Over-rated. Save the money. Service was average. Flat bread appetizer took forever and was underwhelming. Wedge salad had about 50% edible lettuce. Caesar salad way too fishy. Inside of restaurant was just there. Plain. Cold. looked around and everyone had jackets on. So the main dishes came with a chance to earn two stars. Failed again. Penne pasta with shrimp smelled like dragon breath. Tasted marginally better. Gnocchi too garlicky. Server or someone annoying in the back wouldnt stop singing. annoying as hell. Bad, especially considering it isn't cheap.

We thought the food was good, overpriced a bit but good. Had the beet salad - excellent but small for $10. Flat bread, soup and pasta all good. They said they had only 1 table upstairs left due to reservations ....we were there at 6 and the place was empty! When we left at 7:30 it was fuller but many tables available.

This is our new go-to dinner spot in Lake Geneva. From the food to the service to the signature cocktails right down to the music overhead, we loved every part of our evening here. It's not at all as uptight as the name might suggest and the prices are perfectly in line with the quality and portion size of the entrees. We had: - Lobster wontons: tasty and well-balanced with just enough goat cheese to bring out the creaminess of the lobster. - Meatballs: I wanted to try these as an appetizer and they accommodated me without a fuss. Very good if you like veal, with a bright red sauce that wasn't at all what I was expecting. - Pot roast pappardelle: essentially a simple, hearty beef stew with wide noodles, this was a perfect winter bowl. Highly recommended. - Lamb chops: perhaps the only dish priced a bit high, but definitely worth it. Cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious and the bed of turnips and carrots was a really great addition. We also had two of the specialty martinis which were surprisingly good (Point to Black and Kish-Way-Kee-Tow) and saw several folks come in for cocktails only, so they must be focusing on that part of the business. Desserts were good but not great: my wife had the pecan tart and found it dry and a bit overcooked; I had the smores and thought they were tasty but a bit on the pedestrian side. Service was excellent and accommodating, but we went at 6pm the day after Thanksgiving and there were only a few other diners at the time, so I can't speak to what it's like during rush. The bartender spent a good five minutes unsuccessfully trying to turn on the closed captioning for us while we enjoyed our dessert, so points for the effort. All in all a wonderful experience. We'll definitely be coming back.

Liked it so much we went back two nights in a row. Pretty sure our server "P" was a little high, and forgot our lobster wontons, but our entrees were so good we didn't even care. Came back a second night, because apparently 9pm is excessively late in Lake Geneva, and were not disappointed. Our server, we'll call him "B", was either stoned or quasi european, but he described the specials and desserts so eloquently that we couldnt say no and were wildly pleased. He was without question the most thourough and entertaining server we can recall. Totally made our night. We did get the lobster wontons on our second visit and they were fantastic. In total we had the Duck and Pork (ohmigod) and the second night the linguine and the Korean Barbeque special (that I'd wish I'd ordered too). Also really enjoyed the beer selection. If we're back in town we'll be back again.

All around disappointing. :(

What a wonderful and cozy place! Great food and great service. We were there for my bachelorette dinner and they had a lovely private room upstairs for our large party. The service was quite attentive and the food was delicious - i would recommend the cozy and sophisticated gem to anyone!

Top notch place to eat in lake Geneva. Leave the kids behind, great for a date. Call for reservations, they ate usually booked.

Service here is terrible. The waiter forgot to put my order in with the other members of my party. When the others got their dinners, the waiter told me that the kitchen was plateing my dinner and it would be out in a minute. I waited 25 minutes. Everyone else was done eating when I was served. I told the waiter that he obviously had to notice that everyone else was done and all he said was, "Well, you can just share with your friends." At that time, I was never offered any type of compensation. I called a couple days later and spoke with a manager. She said, "Well, the waiter apoligized and he just forgot to put your order in on time." After a few more minutes of conversation, she reluctantly offered to give a free appetizer the next time I go back.

We should have read the reviews before we decided to dine at that place. Total disappointment! Service was terrible. We ordered right away and one hour later we only had our drinks served. People who were seated after us got their bread and butter and we were still waiting. We were considering canceling our order and leaving when it started pouring. We had to go inside. So we sit at a table downstairs and the manager comes and tells us to go upstairs in their other dining room. We were not happy with it. What a dump that room was. Tables were so close to each other we could hear everyone's conversations. We felt like sardines in a can. We told the waitress to cancel our order and that we were not happy and the manger should take care of our check. The manager was rude and after a short discussion she agreed to pick up the check. When the owner showed up she tried to explain why we were not happy, but she misinterpreted so we had to tell him our version. Anyways, his reaction was surprisingly rude and not apologetic at all. So we told him we'd give his place a bad review, but he said he didn't care. OK Mister Sopra owner: We have traveled the world; we have dined at many many many places. We have NEVER experienced a terrible service and attitude like yours. We dare to make a prediction: Your place will be closed down within a year!

They made sure you got as much food as you payed for. Although there was an issue with the bread. it was the most difficult bread to eat. The butter was cold and the bread was tough to cut. The resturaunt is really small and crowded and very loud. I couldn't even hear myself. Lake Geneva, you can do better, but if you want a classy and fun restaurant, this would be it.
(3)Patrick M.
The worst service I've ever had, and I'm not just saying that. Slow, rude, and their food isn't worth the money. They try to be upscale, but every dish is missing something. The sauce for the blackened tilapia is sour, the bread is disgustingly hard, and the chef can't cook a steak over medium. Just ask him. It's pathetic.

Arrived at 5pm on a Sunday. There were already three tables filled, which I took as a good sign. We decided to have the special flatbread of the day and the fried lobster wontons. The flatbread was topped with an olive tapenade, spinach, feta and tomato and very delicious. The wontons were filled, and I mean filled with lobster! Accompanied by a sweet thai chili sauce, the wontons were perfectly crisp, an interesting take on crab rangoon if you ask me. For entrees, we opted for the Korean BBQ steak and the duck for me. My Honey's steak was served with noodles, mushroom and a nice amount of bok choy. The menu read spicy, but I didn't taste it. Not saying it wasn't terrific, but could have used a little more heat. My duck was perfectly cooked, served with a little salad on the side. Now, let me tell you, the sweet potato french fries are the best I've ever had! Ever. Not a limp fry in the bunch, really nicely done. The only off note was the "apple chutney" that was served with the duck. It was more like applesauce. I mean really! Applesauce?! Other than that, an overall positive experience. Tues and Thurs they offer a $25.00 prix fixe, which probably would give you the most bang for your buck. The beer and wine selection is pretty substantial, but no hard liquor to be found here. The servers are great here! Saw one taking courses out to the gentleman with the sleeping baby in the backseat! We'll definitely come back again.

Great little spot in the heart of Lake Geneva! We were definitely pleasantly surprised by the whole atmosphere. I gave only four stars because the waitress we had made the night a little awkward. I could tell she was just trying to make our evening perfect, but it was a little much. We ordered a bottle of wine and the lobster wontons to start. Both were very good. Since we couldn't decide otherwise, both of us had the Smoked Chicken Gnocchi. It was AMAZING. The flavors were very strong and you could taste everything without another flavor taking over. The waitress made an odd comment about it being rich, which neither of us agreed with and made us think that she had never tried it (oh well). Overall, it was a great experience and we would highly reccommend it (we already did!).

My wife and I went on our honeymoon and had a quiet and enjoyable evening. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and suggested a delicious ginger liquor mixed with champagne, couldn't be beat. My wife and I both ordered pasta. Hers was about average, but my spinach and chicken gnocchi was amazing. The gelato and sorbet were average, at best, compared to what we've experienced elsewhere. We'll definitely return when we're in the area next.

My husband and I met a friend for a wonderful dinner at SOPRA in late March. The food, drinks, and service were impeccable. Good atmosphere, great place!

Great Halibut dish!

Had the pasta, it was excellent. Nice bread provided. Nice selection of beers and wines. Make a reservation.

Mixed experiences by our dinner group. Regardless, service was slow, really slow. That said, the duck was excellent. Pasta was very good. Just took way too long.

Our hotel recommended Sopra as one of the "hot spots" in Lake Geneva. Though the food was good, we waited an obnoxiously long time to get it. We had reservations for a group of 10 pretty late in the evening. After being seated in this fairly small restaurant, we wated a while for our water and drinks to be served. Note: they do NOT serve hard alcohol, only beer and wine. I didn't notice that on the website and it was not mentioned when we made the reservation. We ordered fairly quickly. Waited again for bread and butter to be brought to the table, for refills and our salads. Nearly one hour after arriving and asking how much longer the wait would be, we received our meals. I had the lobster risotto, which was excellent and others had the short ribs, salmon and quail which received good reviews. A few ladies in our party had the steak, which was just "okay". Overall, for the price and status of this restaurant, it was not worth it.

Went to sopra on a weekday early evening. My wife, 3 year old and one year old were greeted warmly and situated with plenty of room. Don't know what it would be like on a busy weekend but it was very kid friendly for us. Most importantly my truffle oil, saffron, tarragon, lobster penne was absolutely world class. I'm from Chicago and honestly don't remember a better pasta dish. Great martinis and my wife loved the wine selection. Our server Meg was great and very knowledgable. Will definitely come back again!

I had booked a private room that held 12 people a month ago. I was hosting a bachelorette party for my sister and the restaurant called to confirm the reservation the day before. I told them that it was only going to be 6 people and asked if that was still ok to have the room since there was no room minimum. The woman assured me it was fine. The next day (the day of the reservation), a man I believe to be the manager or owner left me a voicemail hours before the reservation saying that we could no longer have the room because we only had 6 people for the room. I arrived at the restaurant extremely mad that they would cancel the reservation that day and give us a table instead. But the excuse the same man gave me was different than the one on the phone. He told me in person that the room had been booked a while ago for a party of 13. He asked when I booked and I said a month ago. I asked what he was going to do to compensate me for their error of "double booking" the room (or for having a larger party that would give them more money). He said he would do something nice. They gave us each a glass of champagne. I expected much more and was disappointed with their lack of good customer service skills (although our waiter was very nice). I would never return to this restaurant after being treated so terribly by the management. The food was decent but nothing special. I'm sure this review will never be seen by the management because they don't care about their customer but if they do, I hope they learn that customers cannot be treated this way. Thank goodness for Yelp.

If you decide to go here get the lamb shank it is to die for. Other than that my experience was horrible. First off I like having a knowledgable waiter but when ours was stuck up, arrogant and pushy. The food took atleast an hour after we ordered(probably longer). Then after we were finished and signed the check they started cleaning the table as we were sitting there talking. I have never been to a restaurant this expensive where they started wiping down the table and interrupting our conversation. There was only two or three other tables of people. Take your money to Medusa or Cafe Calamari and have a great dinner. Do not waste it on this place. Bad staff and just ok food(except for the lamb shank). Not worth the money.
(2)Abby J.
The food was fine but the overall experience was awful. AWFUL! Not a positive, relaxing dining experience at all. This was the loudest restaurant I have ever been to. It was stressful for me to even be sitting in there. After we were seated we had to wait at least 15 minutes for water...and the wait seemed to grow exponentially longer between each course. Our waiter was pretentious and irritating. As we were sitting at our table, it was so loud in there, it felt like people were shouting in my ear. They state on the menu that they do not split plates, however two of the people in my party ordered the gnocchi with chicken, and that meal was so rich and the portion was so huge, a normal person could never finish that. One portion would have easily been enough food for two people to share. This is Lake Geneva and we're on vacation - so it's not reasonable for us to take home doggy bags of leftovers. I hated this restaurant.
(1)Larry B.
Poor service, and pricey not so great food. aside from the location on the main st of Lake Geneva it doesnt have much to recommend it. Doubt if it will be open much longer.
(1)Connie C.
We went to Sopra about 2 weeks ago, the food was good. My husband had the steak and frites, he didnt really care for the frites. We also had the charred octopus, and mussels. Our server was nice and I liked this little place.
(3)Cody R.
This is just what Lake Geneva needed. Lake Geneva is overrun with crummy chain restaurants. It's nice to have something small and unique. The food is pretty delicious. (I had the salmon linguini and it was amazing!) It is expensive but it's well worth it to get away from the usual spots. The service could definitely better but I left feeling happy anyway.
(3)Tiffany H.
This Was our 2nd visit and it was great, much better than the first! We had rigatoni w/sausage & goat cheese, and my date had pork tenderloin, both were excellent! Our waitress was friendly too.
(4)Gina B.
Absolutely the best salmon, sweet potato dries, wilted spinach meal in the Midwest. Top it off with a chocolate gelato covered in marsh, allow creme topped with a slight burn and you have a meal worth driving for. Husbands duck was tender and flavorful. This restaurant is not to be missed. Pricey for lake Geneva hot dog weekenders but right in line with Chicagoans expectations -100 for the meal end to end and including drinks. Service was entertaining and attentive. Favorite place in LG. Must go.

This place was great all the way around. My girlfriend and I visited from Chicago during February and did not think to make reservations anywhere for Saturday night. Turns out it was a very busy weekend and most places were booked up. We called ahead at Sopra and they said they were booked until about 9 but we were welcome to come sit at the bar. We made a reservation somewhere else but still went to Sopra first just in case we could get a seat in which case we would cancel our other reservation. We were greeted by the owner who was sad when he had to tell us they had no tables and had reservations all night- he said we could it at the bar, and walked over to survey the scene to see if there was anywhere for us. When there wasn't he asked if we would be interested in coming back the next night and he would make sure to get us in- we said we would call back the next day. We left and made it a block and a half down the street on our way to another place when we heard the owner yelling at us-- he was running down the sidewalk trying to catch up to us to let us know someone had just called to cancel. I thought this was awesome. He spent time helping the server wait on our table throughout dinner and enjoyed speaking with us about how he came to own Sopra, the food, etc. The food was fantastic. We had the flatbread of the night which was great. I had the pork chop and my girlfriend had gnocci with tomato sauce. The food was excellent, and the service and welcoming nature was even better. This is a must go each time we go back to Geneva for us.

I live in Chicago and dine out all the time and I have never written a review about any restaurant; however, my experience at Sopra was so positive, that I feel compelled to write about it. The food was very good and the customer service was incredible. The staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to please. They even mailed me my credit card that I left behind. Overall, fantastic food and great experience. I will certainly be back!
(5)Reece M.
I love this place! Come here to relax and enjoy food. The chef is fantastic and there is a full liquor bar. If you're on a schedule, go to a corporate chain like Gino's East. This is no in and out eatery. Pampering from the staff is adequate, yet does not interfere with why you are here, Fine dining.
(5)Sue C.
We ate here on on Tues night last week and it was wonderful! Great ambience - hip, but not loud, upbeat, nice. Nice menu and wine choices. Food was excellent. This is probably the best food I have had in the Lake Geneva area ever!
(4)Paul L.
Beer and wine only, although the selection is great. stick with the soup specials and salads. Protiens are nothing to write home about. And the service is wonderful. That's about it.
(3)Jamie E.
We were pleasantly suprised at our meal. the tomato soup and beet salad were wonderful. the chef was beyond accomodating to vegetarian needs, letting me pick the veggies, type of pasta, and sauce. my husband !loved! his pasta special with shrimp. the waitress was very sweet and we enjoyed speaking with the owner's wife. it was a lovely, delicious experience. so much better than Cafe Brissago.
(4)Thomas C.
First time in Lake Geneva to take kids to water park with friends. They were familiar with Sopra for dinner, so we used the sitter service at the hotel and had a nice "adult" evening at Sopra ... wish we had more time. Food was a mazing, from the spicy mussels, roasted olives and octopus, to the entrees (best spaghetti and italian sausage I've had in life). Even with great Italian Offerings in Chicago, would consider making the drive up to Lake Geneva just to have a nice diner at this place. Service was as good as the food, definitely try their sparkling cocktails which wife thought was amazing.
(4)Jeannine K.
Crowded - upstairs seating area for the overflow is nice, especially compared to downstairs. Slow service. All entrees can be made gluten free
(3)B B.
Sat at the bar and did the splitzies with my better half. Good was amazing, drinks as well. If you like clean and unique tastes then you'll love this place.
(5)Amy L.
Wonderful food. Great for a special occasion. The menu provided a nice selection of seafood and meat items. The only reason I rated it a 4 star is because the service was somewhat disappointing. The server did not clear plates when finished and water glasses were mostly empty. Enjoyed the ambiance.
(4)Allison S.
One of the few Lake Geneva restaurants that has a beautiful atmosphere and enticing menu. Everyone mentions their prices. I think they really have gauged what they're doing incorrectly on that scale. The food is very good and like I said, pretty romantic atmosphere. Nice sidewalk cafe dining feel. Knock $2-$3 off per entree and you're more in the realm of upscale casual," aka a BISTRO (not Alinea, people). It almost makes them look amateurish to have prices that high for the food. If they were a little lower I'd go far more often, and they'd make more money off this local. It would be too expensive if it were in Chicago, it's just weird.
(4)David G.
In a nutshell, Sopra has a pleasant atmosphere, with inconsistent food quality and sub-par service at high by local standards price. Many better choices in the same price point in the area: Medusa, Holi Canoli, Red Geranium, Cafe Brisaggio and Paisanos.
(2)Marylou F.
Service was unsatisfactory. Waiter was uninterested with our table. Food was cold after taking a very long time to be served. Spoke to owner did not care, stated we should try again, very arrogant !
(1)Gretchen E.
Sopra is a semi-upscale restaurant on the main drag in Lake Geneva. If you're looking for something nicer than the greasy spoon tavern food that is standard in this area, then Sopra is an option. The atmosphere is very nice. For restaurants it always comes down to the food though, and this is where Sopra is lacking: Flavorless dishes that are too often under- or overcooked, and the prices are high for lackluster execution. We recently had our third underwhelming dining experience there that included a snobbish, condescending server, so that will be the last try for us. Disappointing, because Lake Geneva could use quality dining options.
(2)Megan C.
Way way way over priced ! Staff was super friendly and helpful . I like the risks they take with the food parings . I got one of the specials , steak with lobster mashed potatoes . I wasn't a fan of lobster in the mashed potato myself , but I'm sure 99% of humans would be ! It's just my personal preference , I liked the lobster and I liked the mashed potato - I just didn't like them mixed .... It's a weird thing I know . The steak was cooked perfectly and I liked the sauce that came with it . My boyfriend got the pasta special . It was kind of bland , but the noodles were cooked well . I was very happy with the portions we received , but still think it's over priced . I like the ambiance of this place ! They have outside seating in the warmer temperatures !
(4)Nicole P.
For Lake Geneva, this place was pretty dang good. My boyfriend and I were in town for the week from Chicago and were looking for a romantic and more upscale place for dinner. We originally had reservations at Medusa Grill, but when we arrived there 30 minutes early and they told us we could NOT wait at the bar but had to wait outside the restaurant for our reservation, we quickly ran out of there. We came to Sopra as it was also on my list of places to try and were pleasantly surprised. We would consider ourselves foodies always looking to dine at the new and hip places in Chicago. As another caveat, I am born and raised Italian so to say I am picky about the cuisine would be an understatement. I was nervous because some of the yelp reviews were just OK but we had a wonderful experience. We were greeted by the hostess, Brandy, who originally told us they were fully committed so we sat down to eat at the bar instead. Shortly after they had a table leave after just drinks so she was able to squeeze us in. Our waitress, Ashley, was very knowledgeable and friendly. She listed off their 5 different specials and helped us with wine and beer selections. We ordered the lobster rangoons, tuna tartare and split the spaghetti and meatball dish. The tuna was diced in large chunks with tomato and jalapeno and was delicious. The lobster rangoons were also very tasty. The spaghetti was cooked al dente and it was a very generous portion. All in all, I definitely recommend this for a nice dinner date, a glass of wine with your girlfriends, a family dinner or even a private party (separate room available upstairs).
(4)Michele M.
Service was terrible. Our server was training someone on a busy night. We were seated right away and it still took 3 hrs from seating to paying. She took our drink order which took forever then said she had to take our appetizer & entree at the same time because she couldn't put them in separately. She explained the specials in such unnecessary lengthy detail that by the time she finished the second special you forgot the first one. We had to ask 3 times for bread. Appetizers, salads & entrees all came out within a minute of each other. The length that it took to get service & food was ridiculous.
(2)Evelina A.
Me and my boyfriend went there for dinner. Loved the lamb pasta and the shrimp pasta. Service was great - our waitress described the beer and wine we had in the best way and we did enjoy it. We were amazed by the team work we saw among the wait staff and the hostess. It started pouring anf they cleared the patio in no time and accomodated their customers indoors right away. Great place!

My lovely wife and I were looking for something special to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our engagement, and Sopra Bistro delivered a wonderful experience. The room was not crowded when we arrived a little early for our reservation, but it filled up quickly after that. Our friendly and helpful server filled our drink requests in short order, and my Hendrick's Negroni was top notch. We started with the grilled octopus and it was cooked to a perfect al dente. We were surprised at the portion size with the three large pieces over dressed arugula, but had no problem finishing every last delicious bite. The specials are posted on chalkboards in the dining area, and soup of the day was gazpacho. One spoonful and I felt summer in my mouth with tomatoes, onions and several kinds of sweet peppers! It was a rather large bowl (not complaining, mind you) but good to the last drop. A lot of the other diners were ordering pastas and as the plates came by our table, the scents were so tempting that we decided on the gnocchi with roasted chicken and spinach for my wife and the radiatore (my favorite pasta!) with smoked pulled pork shoulder for me. One bite of each and we were both in pasta heaven. Portions are very generous along with the richness of the sauces, so we tried but could not finish. Not a problem though as the leftovers were packed up for a lovely lunch the next day. We are hopefully going to return to Lake Geneva for fall colors, and one place we'll definitely return to is Sopra Bistro.
(5)Heidi R.
The food at Sopra is always reliably good. However because of the prices I consider Sopra more of a special occasion restaurant rather than the neighborhood joint to go to every week. When we lived in Lake Geneva so we went to Sopro regularly. We were back in the area last night and enjoyed the salmon dish as well as the rigatoni dish. In the past Sopra has always had four or five specials for dinner. Last night the specials were limited to two red meat options, but since we don't eat red meat they were not appealing to us. However the Thai tomato was delicious. I am sure we will be back sometime in the future.

The chef is a jerk. The waitress was sweet, but I felt bad for her. When the $45 steak I ordered medium came out purple and the mashed potatoes were inedible (how do you possibly mess up mashed potatoes?????), I asked to please cook the steak longer a substitute the potatoes for another vegetable. They tried to charge me EXTRA for the vegetable, even though I got to wait until my husband was halfway through his meal before I got something I could eat. Then, they actually charged the SERVER when I questioned it. She was clearly afraid to ask for support, because the restaurant is chef-owned and the manager is related. Once I had properly prepared food, it was good, but I'm so mad at the chef for his jerky behavior that I would never go back. We paid $175 for two to eat and left angry and stressed. Not cool. They could have handled that so much better!
(1)S M.
Zero stars. Very unwelcoming. We walked out. We stopped by to give another chance. We had been unhappy during a previous visit. This is a pricy restaurant. Patrons should feel comfortable in a place that charges so much.

We've tried this place 5-6 times out of hopes for improvement, but after last night, we will not be back to Sopra. Sopra, a family owned and operated restaurant establishment, tries its best to offer a creative food and beverage program, but their lack of being able to properly time orders and prep/prepare enough food on several of our visits spoils the overall dining experience. We were a large party and made a reservation yet we were left upstairs in a small private room by ourselves and it took nearly 15 minutes just to get someone to greet us or pour water! Then Despite giving our waiter our entire order upfront to as he said "enable the chef to properly time out our meal" we were left waiting over an hour for our entrees after being told the Wagyu steak special the waiter sold us on was no longer available. When we politely changed our order to accommodate we asked if we could at least have the side dish that came with special of truffle fries (something they have on menu regularly not just as special) we got push back and told no substitutes allowed. Really? Finally they acquiesced and put the fries with my husbands steak. There was no bread offered on the table- the waiter said they didn't "have any right now". When I asked to speak with the "manager"- a curt woman who said the chef was her son she seemed not to care or offer any sort of apology for our troubles. The waiter did his best and we thanked him but it was obvious that his hands were tied by A shlock operation. This family needs to hire pros in restaurant management if they want to stay in business because the food isn't good enough for anyone to put up with such poor service. Take your $ and go to Medusa's down the street- wish we would've!
(1)Jay B.
It took 2 hours before our entrees came and one of the four of us got the wrong entree. The waiter didn't offer to do anything to fix it other than charging us for the price of the less expensive delivered entree instead of the one which was ordered. Used to love eating here. Seems like they're struggling.
(1)Joe B.
Expensive. Waiter was very aloof and condescending.. Would not come here again. Food very average for the price
(1)Debbie M.
Chef will not make substitutions or eliminate any items (i.e., I didn't want capers included) on any menu item on weekends.I had a very difficult time making decision because there was something I didn't like on almost every item. I looked at menu ahead of time online before I made reservation and it was different than one in restaurant. We told them it was our 25th anniversary when we made the reservation and they did nothing special. We sat down at 6:45 when the restaurant wasn't crowded and didn't receive our entree until after 8:00. Will not be returning.
(2)Nicole S.
The menu changed a little from last summer. Took the murals off the menu which was disappointing. Service was good. Waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. The rigatoni was a favorite of the group. Bacon and sharp cheddar cheese sauce set the dish off. Scallops were delicious. They were tender and the brie sauce was very nice. Solid dinner choice but will probably try something different next visit to lake geneva.

Sopra fails in just about every restaurant experience category imaginable: execution of cooking, conception of dishes, service, etc. If you're going to charge upscale restaurant prices, at least try to be within the same stratosphere (in the aforementioned categories) as those places. I walked out recently after paying $160 for two, which isn't that unusual for us. Feeling duped for this price is unusual. It's not a matter of being mad, so much as leaving hugely disappointed. Here's why: - Charred Octopus Salad was exactly that, Charred. There's now way you can conceivably cook that piece of octopus without drying it out and burning certain tentacles. The inconsistency in shape (tentacle length, thickness, all one piece, etc.) does not lend itself to repeatable results, especially on a hot grill. Pretty basic stuff. The salad underneath added nothing to the dish in terms of flavor, freshness, balance, etc. - Scallops - literally, 4 scallops and 4 sliced/fried potatoes with a pedestrian cream sauce, which was seemingly slathered (in no comprehensible way) all over the plate. How is that $30 worth of food? Anyone with a pan, vegetable peeler and knife can make that at home for under $10. - Duck Breast - the chef recommends medium and it comes out medium well. I can't remember the last time anyone recommended duck cooked past medium rare, unless it had Peking or roasted in the tItle. The cuts of duck were objectionable (from a food supply standpoint) on their best day. Making it even worse, the sides were a bone dry, roasted butternut squash with zero flavor and an equally unimpressive risotto cake (sourced?). Drizzling it in balsamic seems like a fleeting attempt at making the dish cohesive - when the exact opposite holds true. - Waitresses shouldn't make recommendations on what they like without establishing some sort of credibility. That's your primary job at an upscale restaurant. How do you know what I might like without asking my tastes? Why would I trust your taste without you illustrating your competency? Classic: everything is awesome! She also poured a really nice/expensive bottle of wine in 8-9 ounce chunks - as if I'm drinking Charles Shaw with the girls. Tip: pour a normal 4-5 ounce pour and walk away. Just because a glass has a 12 ounce capacity, doesn't mean you need to fill it. I think it goes without saying, I won't return, perhaps even for free. Many of the ideas represented on the menu were fairly antiquated by today's standards. Again, don't have a problem with that until you start charging high caliber prices. It creates a discord anytime a restaurant sets high expectations but accomplishes so very little.

Very delicious food. We got a few appetizers (which were smaller then expected) and different entrees. Had to wrap it up the serving size was so big! Very delicious. Our server was also very friendly and attentive. Wish it wasn't as pricey but still very good.

Well parking sucks food good. the wife had a yellowtail Jack was reported to be flaky, not so much I would rate it out of five at three. I had a serf and turf, iron skirt steak with tiger shrimp I would rate that is a five with the pasta and sauce for the steak itself was a three nights then cut little chewy. The service was great we sat outside would not recommend this a lot of traffic. Priced as I would expect downtown Lake Geneva.

Pricey but delicious. Good atmosphere but be prepared for a wait during peak dinner times. I ordered the scallops and they were perfect; looking forward to visiting again.

I was excited for a date night with my hubby-left the kids with the hotel's babysitting service. We had an early reservation and there was only one other couple in the restaurant yet they sat us in the very back at the center table of three crammed-together two top tables next to the waitress stand at the bar. Then the very next two top that came in they sat right next to us! I had a three year old 6 inches from me and the restaurant was virtually empty so why sit them right next to us? Food was okay but not worth the money - my steak was one third fat and though cooked perfectly it didn't have alot of flavor, nor did the "truffle" fries. We didn't finish the mussel app because it wasn't that good. Aubrey the waitress was knowledgeable but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant with so many other great choices in the area.

Sopra was a nice restaurant. The food and wine very good. A little pricy. Our server was awesome though.

great food, i mean top quality ingredients, all cooked so well. the chef really knows what he is doing. as for reservations, they do accept them however you need to tell them where you want to sit as well otherwise you may end up next to the bathrooms, right where the walkway to the upstairs seating is or where the front door opens and it is cold. it has taken us a while to figure this out so now when we make reservations we also request which table we want to sit at so we are not disappointed. for the most part the wait staff cannot handle a full house, many times i have seen customers get upset due to lack of engagement from the staff in assisting them. the food though, is really good, what an awesome chef.

Incredible Meal for the five of us. We all loved our meals. Mussels were awesome. Great salmon, Fettuccini Alfredo was awesome. I had radiators, corkscrew macaroni with bacon and Gorgonzola, it was incredible. I can hardly wait to go back again. They will make anything to go! Super friendly service. It's a bit pricey as you don't get a salad with your entree, but good quality food. I can't believe it took me so long to check them out.

HOWEVER----Please please (for the regulars) change your menu a bit. We have run out of things to order. Also your specials have been the same lately as well!!!!

We ate here on Saturday, May 17, and it was excellent! We were in a large party and we had lobster won tons, mussels, and octopus for appetizers. For dinner: mahi mahi, New York strip, fettucine, and lamb. Flourless chocolate cake for dessert. All the food was amazing and the drinks also were top notch. Great atmosphere (I love the cool ceiling!) and fantastic service. Highly recommend!

From the fresh gimlet martini to the lobster wontons, and the chopped salad to the decadent and creative pasta dishes... This was a wonderful experience. The service was excellent, and the dishes expertly crafted with a perfect price point!

This was our second or maybe third meal here...and far / away the best. First off....the wine and beer lists are excellent. They have a wide selection of beers from near and far....have the local brewery as well as those from Oregon and California as well...included 6 constantly changing drafts...best list in town (and I've researched this extensively). One note....do call ahead....we were there on a Sunday night around 8...late by local standards...and the place was almost full...and pretty noisy. Fortunately our small table in the rear was quieter. Wife also truly enjoyed her pinot noir. We passed on the appetizers (and desserts)....hey, the place ain't cheap...closer to Chicago prices (which is where a lot of folks here for dinner / weekends, etc...are from). Wife had the pork...after having her first choice shot down - the trout - as being out. In fairness, it was 8 pm on a Sunday night and who wants day old fish? The waitress made a recommendation for her...actually two of them...which is a plus. She really enjoyed it....as well as the well cooked asparagus that accompanied it. I had the PAPPARDELLE.....the duck thigh meat and panetta / leeks that accompanied it were wonderful.... Waitress was very attentive...she even remembered the small italian restaurant that had this location before Sopra. All in all...an excellent spot. We will be back (not too often...it is pricy by southern Wisconsin standards) but this is definitely a place to have a enjoyable meal in a small town.

We were a party of five with a reservation and they sat us way in the back by the server corridor while there were numerous empty tables by the window. :( Nice menu with a smaller number of choices relative to other menus but they are so varied and interesting it was hard to choose among them. Inside it has a nice feel - light tan walls and a nice wooden bar in the middle of the long narrow room. Fench bread with coarse salt-topped butter was fresh with great dairy flavor. The gazpacho special was good but not great as it was made with peaches and needed more punch. The octopus was a bipolar dish - the grilled octopus was pretty but over cooked and under seasoned, while the base of crispy fried fingerling potatoes was tossed in a sauce that was to die for - creamy, savory, light garlic. They ought to bring the octopus out whole so you can see how lovely they are and then the server should cut them and toss it all together - that way the octopus would have more flavor. The baked marinated olives were good but too salty. The ahi tuna special had way too large and too manu pieces of kalamata olives and only two measly house fried chips. The New York strip was good but not tender enough. The truffle fries were crisp, hot and perfectly seasoned without an overwhelming amount of truffle flavor. The smoked and grilled pork chop had good flavor but was a tad dry. The best two dishes of the night were the gnocchi with chicken and smoked mozzarella and the duck ragu pappardelle. The gnocchi were toothsome but not too heavy with a creamy white sauce with a smokey note from the smoked mozz. The pappardelle were eggy and cooked just right and the ragu was not traditional as it had no tomatoes or carrots and was a light yet creamy sauce with crispy pancetta nuggets and duck thigh meat. It was seriously lacking salt. So much so that it took numerous applications of salt to get it to have flavor. Then it was finally very good. The Smores dessert had a slightly stale pizzelle but the rest was a symphony of flavors - chocolate ice cream with bruléed marshmallow cream. Water service was lacking and the wine bottles need to be stored in a cooler environment. They were a tad warm. This place has potential to be great with a little more attention to flavor and service details.
